Listed below are details pertaining to a proposal for a new city park, please look over the details and give us your opinion.
City Commissioner Scotty Tillery bounced off an idea for a 46-acre recreation park on the north end of town during the Cedartown commission’s regular May meeting.
The thought was pitched out as a concept plan, encompassing an area of land sandwiched between the Sybil Brannon Parkway (the Cedartown bypass) and Davis Road.
Tillery said the conceptual plan could offer 10 ball fields, including one for T-ball, one for coach-pitch, two 150-foot fields, three 200-foot fields and three 220-foot fields.
The plan also includes a large space for a skate park, batting cages and playground area, as well as picnic pavilions, fitness and walking trails.
A multi-use gymnasium would also be worked into the park’s layout, along with areas for concessions, restrooms and parking.
The park would also make use of the area’s natural greenspace and trees, Tillery said.
Tillery said this project, if decided on, could be done in phases, much like the recent renovations made to Peek Park and Turner Street Park.
“This is something that can certainly be done in phases,” Tillery said.
“We can come up with a budget and have an environmental consultant help us out.”
Grants and other pots of money would be looked at to fund the park, commissioners said.
Tillery proposed that the board take a close look at the proposal and come up with a plan to move it forward. reference: http://www.thepolkfishwrap.com
